Rio Productions is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1996 for the organization and promotion of events mainly carnival parades. Rio Productions has been a participant of the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) Grand- and Labor Day parades for 18 years and has been organizing and hosting its own parade known as “The Lightin’ Up de Road Parade” since 2012.
The Lightin’ Up de Road Parade has become a significant part of the carnival schedule and is the unofficial kick off to opening of the carnival season in St. Maarten. It’s a social and cultural event that truly brings joy to the people. The demand for the Lightin’ Parade has grown steadily over the years since the first parade was hosted in 2012. That year there was a great turnout of 600 persons. In 2013 Rio Productions was happily surprised to have 800 persons. In 2014 the organization reached four digits of 1000 revelers, in 2015 the organization counted 1250 participants, and in 2016 no less than 1600 revelers participated in the parade.
Needless to say, the Lighted Parade continues to grow and to be a resounding success. With a trend of 25% increase annually, the Lighted parade 2017 is expected to show a greater increase than ever before.
To provide a safe environment where revelers can enjoy a genre of music as they parade in lighted t-shirts and costumes through the streets of the Philipsburg showcasing our culture.
To further expand the parade by continually adding new elements to it, and become the best organized and most professional Carnival Night Parade in the Caribbean Region.
